- Dublin band, The High Ground, who reunited after a 23 year break (!) in 2020, have been busily writing and recording new material.
- The High Ground are also a “four piece” once again, with Ken Byrne getting back behind the drum kit to lend some “welly” to the operation.
- Ken joins the other original members, Donal O’Sullivan, Karl Doyle and Alan Flynn to complete the HG line up.
- And Now!! The band are putting the finishing touches to Everest, their brand new album, which is being recorded in The Barn in Rathcoole, Dublin.
- Everest features 10 new songs composed by Donal and Karl which the band have been fine tuning (amid much tea and biscuits) in Sandyford at the foot of the Dublin mountains.
2020-2022
- As a Three Piece (amid Covid restrictions) The High Ground recorded 3 songs, produced by Karl, and recorded at their various homes.
- Figure You Out was a particular success and the band were delighted to get unexpected airplay around the country.
- A two-day session with old buddy Colm Jones in Wexford followed and yielded two more tracks, Do It Just to Do It and Who’s Talkin’ Now which the band were really proud of. The session included the compulsory visit to the local pub and a few sore heads too!
- These tracks are all available on the usual digital platforms.
The Good Old Days!
- In the 90s The High Ground built up a loyal following and gigged at various iconic Dublin venues: Whelan’s, The Baggot Inn and Eamon Doran’s etc.
- The band were National Finalists in the Hot Press/Bacardi Band of the Year Competition in 1997, thanks to their exciting live show.
- The High Ground had two very well received single releases, with “Different Situation” getting a lot of attention and airplay.
- The band recorded an Album of Original Material “Movieland” which is now available on most digital outlets, under the title “It Was Great for Me.”
- The High Ground featured Donal O’Sullivan, Karl Doyle, Alan Flynn, Ken Byrne, Chris Hussey and Paul Logan.
- Pivotal to the High Ground sound was the song-writing nucleus of Donal and Karl, who combined innovative writing with tasty guitar licks and production.
